Shrinkage is the worst!!

Happy Thursday to my fellow naturals!!

It's been a while since I've been able to post, been really busy for the past week or so. Getting my youngest daughter ready to go back to school in NYC! If anyone knows of some apartments that may be available in Brooklyn or Manhattan, but Manhattan is so expensive, ugh!! My oldest daughter informed me that she is trying to finish school in Miami, so it seems my nest will be empty sooner than expected, no complaints here though :)

So this is week four of Know Your Hair, Love Your Hair challenge! I'm glad that I finally understand the whole hair typing situation, the videos helped tremendously! It's also good to know that I have high porosity hair.
The past couple of days I've been styling my hair in some interesting styles. I've received quite a few compliments, but I've also gotten some looks like "WTH were you thinking"! I don't care, it's MY hair, LOL! Last night I decided to try out the CG method, I started once before, but since it's very time consuming, I decided to stop. Well, last night I did the finger combing, didn't use a comb once, although you can use a wide tooth comb. You're suppose to do your hair in sections, which is why it's so time consuming. My curls came out popping, but I have MAJOR SHRINKAGE :( I know it comes with the territory, especially w/ wash & go's. So, my plan is to continue w/ this method and see how it goes.

Well, that's all for now, I plan to start posting a little more often, really trying to get the hang of this blogging, any tips for me would be greatly appreciated!

Peace & Love :)

Week Three of "Know Your Hair, Love Your Hair Challenge!!

Happy Tuesday my fellow naturals!!

Like the saying goes, you are what you eat and that applies to your hair as well. Unfortunately, I've learned that the hard way when it comes to caring for natural hair. This second time around I'm a lot more patient and so eager to do the right thing so that I get great results. I want to start taking Vitamin B complex, just to see if it really helps with hair growth.

I had an awesome weekend with my family. My mom had a great time @ the photo session that's she's been wanting to do forever. She really loved her birthday gift! I tried a cute hairstyle that I got from iknowlee (she is such a cutie, love her to pieces)! I received quite a few compliments from family and strangers :)

Here are a few pics from the shoot we did over the weekend! Hope everyone has a fantastic week! God bless!

Week two of "Know Your Hair, Love Your Hair" Challenge

Good afternoon my fellow naturals!

We're in week two of the hair challenge, and I found that Kimmaytube & LaBellaNatural's videos were VERY informative. I have been so busy in the last couple of days, that I didn't have any time to post. Really hoping everyone is having a great week thus far. I am subscribed to so many YouTube vloggers and Bloggers, but all of them have so much great information to share, it's kind of addictive, So, while watching one of iknowlee's videos, this one was a review of SunShine's Natural & Loving It, checked out her page and loved her products. I already ordered & received my shirt that I ordered from her, posting a picture soon.

Today's hairstyle is a curly fro, not too excited about it, but not disappointed either. Need to finish up my project I'm working on. Have a beautiful evening!

Good afternoon to my fellow naturals!
Hope everyone is having a good day so far, mine has been very uneventful. Not too busy @ the office, but I'm quite sure I'll be busy at my part-time this evening. My sister's & I (actually it's my youngest daughter's idea, love you MoNieshia) are trying to plan a huge surprise for my mother for mother's day. The problem is, she is so nosy I'm not quite sure how we're going to pull it off. Hopefully it will be a success :)
Well, I'm happy w/ my hair today, I did a twist out, but I tried smaller twists. I noticed a little hair coming out as I was twisting my hair. Basically, I tried to do a different method, w/o spraying w/ my water as usual. I just used the Shea moisture curling enhancing smoothie (BIG MISTAKE). After I brushed my hair with my denman brush, I noticed as I was twisting, my  hair was coming out!!!! YIKES!! I immediately sprayed my hair with my water and used the shea moisture and I immediately noticed a difference. I see my hair doesn't like that dry detangling method.
Here is my picture of today's style!

Happy Twist-Out!

Happy Friday people!!

Hope everyone's morning is going great for you. Today is another fun-filled day for me, busy day @ the office and then off to the part-time for more training. Not complaining, because I know I'm blessed. Got home earlier than usual last night, so I decided to do a twist out, I co-washed first, then used my leave-in conditioner, along with other hair products and started twisting. Loving my twist-out, I guess I'm getting better at it :)

Well, I'm out of here, need to get some things done before the day is over. Be blessed!

Second day Afro Puff

Good morning my fellow naturals!!

Today is going to be a long day for me, but I'm not complaining. Last night when I finally got home I was too tired to twist my hair, I decided to put my satin bonnet on and just hope for the best. I woke up to good results, the puff was a little smashed, but I just sprayed some H20 on it and it was refreshed. I do have a little frizz going on, but I'm happy that I still have some curl definition going on.

A few weeks ago I planned on doing just wash & go's, because my hair is in that weird in-between stage. It's just long enough for me to do two strand twists, but I wasn't getting the curl definition that I wanted. I did have some growth since I did the BC back in June of 2011, but I have horrible shrinkage. Since last Saturday, my hair has been looking great in the twist outs that I do. So far, I'm really happy about that. Going to post a few pics :)

Looking forward to receiving more new information in the following weeks of this "Know Your Hair, Love Your Hair" Challenge. I'm happy with my natural hair journey so, but there is ALWAYS room for improvement. Hope everyone has a blessed day!

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

Hello everyone!! Hope you all are having a beautiful & blessed Wednesday!

Yesterday was a busy day, but it was a good day! In my area we had are Primary Elections yesterday, I'm an election judge, so our day was very slow. Primaries are usually kind of slow, not many came out to vote! I'm truly hoping everyone makes there way to the polls in November!! Make your vote count, don't complain if you don't utilize your right!!

Enough about that :) Last night I put some flat twists in my hair, I really have trouble having the twists come out smooth. My hair is so thick and curly that it's really hard for me to separate the hair as I go down the flat twist.(any suggestions on what I can do)? As a result, my hair came out horribly this morning when I took the twists out :(  Since I go into the office late today, I had some time to come up with another option. Since it was about that time, I co-washed my hair and put some leave in conditioner in, smoothed my hair up in the back & front and put my hair in a puff. I ended up putting in two strand twists. It wasn't thoroughly dry, so I was careful taking out the twists, so I wouldn't end up with a huge frizzy afro ;)

I'm happy w/ the results, lots of defined curls. I want to color my hair again, but I'm trying to hold off. This is how I'm gauging my hair growth, because I colored it last year when I did the big chop!

Here are my results of today's hairstyle :)

I'm ready for the challenge!!

For the last three days I've been using a different technique to keep up my hairstyles. I was all over YouTube as I always am, watching my favorite vloggers. I stumbled upon this combination of hair products. Didn't really believe it would work, but I did twist-outs for the past three days. I used Eco styler w/ olive oil and mixed together with some Shea moisture's curl enhancing smoothie. The results were great (IMO) :)

My curl definition was fantastic and it didn't leave my hair hard like it does, if I were to use the eco styler alone. At  my part-time job, I received about six compliments on how beautiful my hair was. Two of them were from men.

The kick-off has begun for the Know Your Hair, Love Your Hair Challenge! I see everyone is checking in. So excited about learning more techniques on caring for my hair. I've posted my goals and I'm looking forward to meeting new online naturals. Below is a pic of my hair today, a simple afro puff!
